About

Who is Bantwana Initiative Uganda?

In 2005, Bantwana Initiative Uganda was founded to support the fourth wave of the HIV epidemic impact on communities that saw a massive increase in Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Since local registration, Bantwana  has strengthened its collaboration with  local leaders as well as focused community efforts which emphasizes holistic care for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). Bantwana has addressed compounding vulnerabilities especially those affected by poverty, HIV, and gender-based violence, which are affecting adolescent girls and boys as well as younger children-through parenting programs.

....

Through integrated programming Bantwana  ensures access to essential services at the intersection of education, health and child protection , engaging communities, families, and governments to build resilience and mitigate HIV risks and violence against children. Employing human-centered design, Bantwana emphasizes capacity development, education quality, positive youth development, and economic resilience. Through a referral network and case management, it enhances access to education, health and social protection.

....

In Uganda, where 56% of the 40 million population are under 18, Bantwana tackles challenges of a growing youth population. Focusing on proven care models. BIU employs a Technical Assistance approach that builds referral networks and system strengthening which have reached over 230,000 numbers of youth and children across 44 districts, supporting HIV epidemic control goals (95-95-95) and preventing violence against children. Innovating through Closed User Groups, skills for out-of-school adolescents, and social norms change, Bantwana spans capacity building, coordination, and advocacy, complementing local government systems.
